Hurricane Jeanne hits the 'BeachClub' -
Sept 2004
Introduction:
We spent most of the first hurricane (Frances) in Jacksonville with Mr.
Bill's Mom
& Step-Dad, Chuck.
This hurricane, we made the 'mistake' of waiting too-late, and deciding
to ride-it-out-here in our house in Stuart, which turned out to be
right in the path of the eye of the Hurricane. Ms. May now
believes that Ms. Frances left a 'groove' and that groove was followed
by Ms. Jeanne - I can't contradict that statement, Ms. May says I also
slept through most of the 'eye' of Hurricane Jeanne - which
moved-through this area from about 10:20 p.m. on the night of Saturday,
25th through about 01:00 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, 26th... - I
can't contradict that statement either. However, I DO KNOW that I
was WHUPPED, and took a SIGNIFICANT NAP on Sunday or Monday afternoon
after more cleaning-up...
However, I can say it's terrifying to attempt to sleep-through a
hurricane as it bashes your house and your worldly goods... I am not
sure I want to stay here, again, I AM SURE, though that we will buy six
new pieces of plywood to put on our sliding glass doors and french
doors that open from our living / dining area out onto our
(once-screened-in)
porch... (now something called a 'framed-in' porch)...
Since you've come here from the main September web-page we'll not
re-count the many things that happened during the hurricane's
transit; but show you some pictures of
this, that, the other and what ever we can - and probably leave it at
that...
In the after-math; we got our power-back either on Thursday night(30th)
or Friday morning (1st) - we're not sure because we spent Thursday
night with friends in Jupiter Farms (about a 35 minute drive from here)
- we'd had enough (5 nights) sleeping in the 85-90F heat!...
anyway - once we got power-back we got our pumps working and pumping
water, and so-forth; Then Ms. May went to Publix for groceries
and I went shopping at Lowe's for a few things - we still need to get
some plywood for our sliding-glass-doors and french-doors but that will
come when I return from Chicago...
