click here => Contingency Planning section,   and-or here's Bill's version of  an issues-list for a Year2000 Contingency Plan.    This issues outline - along with the review, who's link is listed at the end of the next paragraph, should help you create your new plan.  Templates abound - and those of you who have been to the Year2000 Contingency Planning will have access to them.

:wq

Here's a "not-so" brief review of my thoughts as I read through all the plans I've seen so-far - Some from inside GSD, some from other parts of Motorola and some from outside Motorola.  This ASCII file contains just some of the problems I see with some documents, and how you can avoid those pitfalls - "Learn from Other's Mistakes - you don't have time to make them all in your life"... - click here

Year 2000 Contingency Planning Process:------data updated as of: Wednesday_12_May_1999
and a "note" - I have left the Year2000 Champion's name & e-mail for each site, even though, strictly speaking the "Contingency Planning" is not (I don't think) in most cases their sole responsibiliity. (though they should definately be a participant of the team to create the Contingency Plan.  This is, to some extent, un-fair, as I have no guidance from MDs that those Year2000 Champions have, in fact, been assigned the role, the responsibiliities, (and one would hope the  authority and the resources) to complete the plan. However, I needed to put someone's name & e-mail next to each site name - so those names are there until someone gives me information otherwise.

Adelaide     draft plan received - reviewed - they were supposed complete the draft by 30 April, however I have not received the completed draft

--------------------------------------------------------

let me reiterate, again (as I did in my e-mails of 8, 15 & 30 March) exactly what is required for your Contingency Plan:

you each have several "classes" of equipment that could, potentially, be Year2000 sensistive.  Some examples of those classes of equipment are:  file servers, desktop-cpu-computers, Xterminals, PABXs, airconditioning systems, burgler alarms, etc. etc. etc.

For each "class" of equipment we need a statement from you - a short paragraph or two about what your Action Items will be on the day you discover that regardless of any vendor guarantees and/or any testing you or others have done that this "class" of equipment is non-compliant.

Additionally: - another section of the contingency plan would contain similar "what actions will I take" (to keep my business running) if software that I have delivered to a customer, and have guaranteed to him/her/it is Year2000 Compliant, in fact, turns out to not be compliant, what will I do?

I would like to publish your contingency plans here for one & all to see - even your draft plans - so submitting them to me in HTML format would be preferable to Word xyz or any other proprietary tool format.

We are, as I said in my recent e-mails working towards a deadline here.  We must have a complete GSD-wide plan to presen to Terry (that he presents to Corporate's Year2000 Council) in May.  Please use all available haste to complete your draft to me ASAP.

thank you very much, IN ADVANCE, for your HELP & COOPERATION!

VERY Sincerely yours,  Bill Schell
