Bill Schell's 'Traveler's Guide to Health"
Introduction:
this file 'still' under-construction...
Travelling on business (or even pleasure) is enjoyable, entertaining
and educational. However, it's none of those things when/if you
get sick. Getting sick while travelling can be almost devastating
and at best un-comfortable.
Here's a 'few-guidelines' to staying healthy while away-from-home:
- Do NOT eat spicy food 24 hours before you depart.
- Drink LOTS of water on the airplane - planes are Dry Dry Dry, if
you don't drink liquids you'll be 'ookie' in all senses of the word
- Drink bottled water while away from home - dirty water is the
number one 'catalyst' to getting sick while travelling - don't shirk at
the cost of the bottled water - 'just do it'...
- Eat moderately, and ALWAYS ASK - what you're eating - especially
if you don't know - and Do NOT be embarassed about refusing something -
if it makes you sick - it's not worth the 'saving-face' or 'I had to
eat it - I would have upset-the-hosts" - don't worry about upsetting
the host - your health is worth way more than upsetting them.
MAKE CERTAIN you know your
'drug-allergies' to say nothing of 'food allergies' - these are almost
always a 'gotcha' while travelling.
- MAKE CERTAIN you have - with you, in a 'safe' place a 'medical
history' (this example from Motorola, - it's good, it's NOT the 'best'
but it's certainly a start.
- MAKE CERTAIN you are capable of explaining drug-allergies
(especially) to medical practitioners in far-away-places - MOST Medical
practitioners in almost any country will speak 'passable' English
