(AC-wall-power) Electrical outlet specs for some countries

Here's Bill's ASCII Text representation of what the electrical outlets look like in some of the more popular countries for the Road Warrior.

Voltage:  All countries in the world are 220v - 240v
EXCEPT:

  • USA
  • Canada
  • Japan (some parts)
  • Mexico
  • Philippines (some parts)

    • Australia:  \   /

    Canada: - it's proximity to the USA make it not only 110v,
               but it uses the same plug-style

    China:
    depends a LOT on WHERE you are! - they have just about everything)

    Beijing:  |    |   (UK style 13amp fused (plug))
                |       in most hotels, BUT hotels also have the
                        European low amperage 2-pin

    Cheng Du:
       UK style 13amp fused (plug)) (see above Beijing or below UK)
       Australian (see above)
       European low-amperage 2 pin:
         2 pins of 4.8 mm diameter on 19mm centres
         2 pins of 4.0 mm diameter on 18mm centres

    HOWEVER, note in some Chinese cities you'll also find:

         2 pins of 4.8 mm diameter on 18mm centres
         2 pins of 4.0 mm diameter on 19mm centres
           (are you confused, now?)

    Nanjing: mostly UK & European low amperage 2 pin

    Su Zhou: mostly UK - some European low amperage 2 pin

    Egypt:

    Hong Kong: - though you'll find all three of these,

    European low-amperage 2 pin:
       2 pins of 4.8 mm diameter on 19mm centres
       2 pins of 4.0 mm diameter on 18mm centres

    a (big) 3-pin style with:
    two load carrying pins:
       5mm diameter on 19mm spacing
       7mm diameter earth

    Hong Kong:  |    |   (UK style 13amp fused)

    the UK style 13 amp fused is now the government mandated standard, so you should see more of those in the future
     
     
     

    Italy: two styles - but most low amperage is:

     o  o  o   <== all pins are 4.0 mm diameter
               spacing (outside pins) is 18mm

    there IS a higer amperage plug - this is my "estimate"

    o  o  o   <== 4.8 mm diameter at 19mm or 20mm outside spacing
     
     

    Japan: - some parts 110v, mostly 220v though
     
    110v portions of the country use USA style:

    220v portions of the country have several different styles
           but mostly the UK-13-amp fused plug type
     

    Poland:
         European low-amperage 2 pin:
             2 pins of 4.8 mm diameter on 19mm centres
             2 pins of 4.0 mm diameter on 18mm centres

     
     

    Singapore:
    almost universally in hotels & offices
    is the UK 13amp fused-plug

    USA: is one of the very few 110v countries
    in the world, and the only outlet you'll find is:
